Craps is a game played by rolling two dice. The game is split into two distinct phases, known as the coming out phase and the point phase.

The coming out phase

In this phase, the player’s aim is to roll either a 7 or an 11 while betting on the pass line. If a Craps is rolled, meaning a 2, 3 or 12, this bet loses. A point is established when a player rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10.

The point phase

In this phase, the same number as the point must be rolled before a 7 is rolled.

The betting strategy.

This will take a while to learn but once a new player grasps the logic behind the strategy, the game is easy to play. An alternative is to bet on the ‘don’t pass’ bet. This means that on the initial or ‘come out’ roll, the player will win on a craps and lose on 7 or 11 roll. If a point is established, this would win if a 7 is rolled before the corresponding number.
In both phases of the game, different side bets can be made which will increase the player’s chances of winning.

Craps Variations

The Terminology used in Craps may differ from one casino to another. For the most part, the player who is rolling the dice is called the “shooter”. A 7 or 11 roll is called a ‘natural’.
Craps Tips

One of the good strategies commonly used is to make ‘pass line’ bets or ‘don’t pass’ bets by placing the true odds bet once the point has been established. You do this by clicking to the right of the point chip, and your second true odds bet will be placed. Another good bet is to place the 6 or 8 to win bet.

Proposition Bets - These bets can be made at any time. Except for the Hardways, they are all one-roll bets.

Any craps: You win if a 2, 3 or 12 is thrown. Pays 8:1
Any seven: You win if a 7 is rolled. Pays 5:1
Eleven: You win if an 11 is thrown. Pays 15:1
Ace deuce: You win if a 3 is rolled. Pays 15:1
Aces/Boxcars: You win if a 2 or 12 is thrown. Pays 30:1

Horn Bet – These are bets made on 2, 3, 11 and 12 and placed all at once. A player wins if one of these numbers is rolled. The pay-off is determined by the number rolled. The other three bets are then lost.

Hardways - The bet on a Hardway number wins if it is thrown the ‘hard’ way before the ‘easy’ way or a 7 is rolled i.e. as a double. A Hardways bet on 8 will win on 4-4, and lose on 7, 6-2 or 5-3.

Strictly speaking, a strategy is aplan to get the desired effect from a given action. In poker there are several “types” of players. Each has a different basic strategy.

Tight players play only premium hands like big pairs (AA, KK, QQ) good suited connectors (10-J, J-Q, Q-K or K-A and sometimes A-2) The pairs are “made hands”, meaning that you already have more than any 2 random cards and the larger the pair the better. Suited connectors can get you a straight, flush or straight flush which are all good hands. If they play these and nobody else is betting they can be pretty certain that they have the best hand. With suited connectors if they don’t hit their straight or flush and someone else is betting then they can fold and if they do hit then they can win big pots.

Loose players play all kinds of hands for small bets or calls and hope that something big hits so they can extract the maximum amount of chips.

Aggressive players can be either tight or loose, but whatever they play they often play hard, making large bets and raises, often hoping to either beat or bluff their opponentout of the hand.

Quiet, sneaky, or “timid” players can also be tight or loose but they tend to bet small or just call and often that’s in hope of trapping an opponent - getting the opponent to think they have a weak hand so the opponent is betting and they don’t have to risk revealing information on their hand by how they bet.

There are also game strategies which vary. Ring or live game vs tournament. And in tournaments it also depends on what part of the tournament - early, mddle or late game. There are many schools of thought as to how you should play any strategy and when and how you should change from one to the other(changing gears) during the course of a game to keep your opponents from figuring you out or “reading you”.

That’s just a basic rundown of player strategies. VERY basic…lol but it’s a good starting point. I’m sure other will have more to add, and there are a lot of good books. Super System ans Super System2 come to mind. There’s also “How to play like a Pro” but since I can’t stand Phil Helmuth I would never recommend that one…lol There is also a lot of poker on TV, some of the commentators are prett good and a few of them are also pro players intheir own right so they explain a lot of this and you can see examples in action so it might make more sense. Other than that, play some freerolls and experiment to see what you are comfortable with.

Here are represented some opinions about Stud strategy from Gambling forum.

1. First three cards (2 down 1 up) you need to look at whether you have a pair, a possible straight or a potential flush. One of the ways of doing that is looking to see the up cards of everyone around the table. Look to see how many of your “necessary cards” are already gone. From that you will know whether to call or fold.

2. Next you want to watch what is coming down on 4th and 5th streets. Are they the cards you need. Are most of your cards to make a great hand gone already or not. If they are then fold.

3. If by 5th street you don’t have a made hand then you are just plain gambling that what you do have will stand up.

These are probably the best three points I can give you at this time. If you want more I can put more in. But try playing the game using this guideline to start with and see if that helps.

Actually 7 Card and 5 Card Stud are probably the easiest games to learn because you do not have any community cards. You are strictly playing your cards against the other opponents cards.

What makes it easy is that you get to see at least 4 of their cards to compare against your cards. This gives you something to measure your hand by and if you don’t have a hand by 4th street and someone is betting and showing and Ace and a King then you can be sure that they have possibly doubled up on one of them. However, if by 4th Street you have a 4 cards str8 and are drawing to and outside str8 then it is worth seeing 5th Street. If it doesn’t happen for you then and the big bettor is coming out big again… Then unless you really want to gamble at this point on the drawing of the right card you must fold in the face of adversity.

That was one of the first games I learned and I still love 7-stud. When you are learning it is really nice to see what each person could have by what is “up”. You can also compare - if there is a player who is ahowing a potential straight flush, and you can see that another player has the fill card then you know you are ok if you have the nut flush. So that does make it easier if you pay attention.

1) Play good starting hands.
Only play hands like AA, KK, QQ, JJ, TT, 99, AK, Aqs until you get comfortable playing the rest. They are easier to play and don’t get you into as much trouble as the KJ, KQ etc.

2) Play within your bankroll.
Do not take shots, play in games you are comfortable playing in. I remember when I started I played 5-10 NL one time with only 2k in my account. I was super scared, won a pot and left but I easily could have lost. I definitely was not comfortable in that game. Even today I play 1-2 and 2-4 NL and PLO sometimes because I feel super comfortable in them.

3) Do not tilt.
I cannot stress this enough, I believe mental stability is paramount while playing poker, especially no limit holdem. The ones with the clearest minds will definitely prevail over the long run. That’s what I accredit most of my success to.

4) Learn all the games.
I did this when I started out, if there were no good no limit games but a really good mixed game I would play the mixed game because I knew how. It gives you a chance to take a soft spot and exploit it, something most NL players are not capable of. I like HORSE and I think that’s a good place for people to start.

5) Don’t riffle chips if you are new.
If you don’t know how to riffle chips in a live casino, don’t try to do it while you play.
